Material: Oak on Stone base. The purpose of a Caryatid on Ancient Greek buildings was as a roof support; always carved as a female figure. This is a German Caryatid, carved in wood, not stone, and on a more personal scale. She could possibly still fullfill a structural role, but I think this proud woman is better suited for a freestanding life. The first stages of this sculpture were carved in public at an open-air exhibition in Suttorf, Niedersachsen, Germany.
